Long-Term Implant Maintenance
We provide ongoing implant maintenance to help your results stay healthy and comfortable for years.
A molar cracks under a popcorn kernel, or a back tooth that was root-canaled years ago finally loosens. Sometimes a patient tells us they've been hiding a gap for a decade, chewing on one side, avoiding photos. Other times a long-standing partial denture has started to rock, and the teeth holding it are tired. These are the everyday situations that bring people to us for dental implants — and they're the reason implant dentistry exists: to replace a tooth from the root up, so the space feels and functions like it did before.
A dental implant is a small, biocompatible post placed into the jawbone where a tooth root used to be. Over the following weeks, bone grows against the surface of that post and holds it firmly in place. Once the foundation is stable, a crown, bridge, or denture attaches on top. The result is a replacement tooth that stands on its own, without clasps and without depending on neighboring teeth for support the way a traditional bridge does.
That independence matters more than most people expect. When a tooth is lost, the bone that once surrounded it begins to shrink, and the teeth on either side can drift toward the opening. An implant occupies that space and gives the bone a reason to stay. It also means we don't have to reshape healthy adjacent teeth to anchor a restoration — the work stays where the problem is.
Implants solve a wide range of problems, from a single missing premolar to an entire arch. We place single dental implants, implant-supported bridges, and implant-supported dentures, along with full-arch solutions including All-on-4, All-on-6, and All-on-X treatment for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth. For someone who has worn a lower denture for years and struggled with slipping, an implant-retained option can change how eating and speaking feel day to day.
Good implant results start with healthy gums and adequate bone, which is where our background as a periodontal practice shapes the care we provide. Periodontics is the specialty concerned with the gum and bone that surround teeth, and we have a board-certified periodontist on staff. When active gum disease is present, we treat it first — placing an implant into inflamed tissue invites problems later, so gum disease treatment often comes before anything else.
When bone volume is thin or has receded after a long-standing extraction, we can rebuild the site. Bone grafting restores height and width where it's been lost, and ridge augmentation reshapes a collapsed area of the jaw so an implant has something solid to sit in. We also perform gum grafting, crown lengthening, cosmetic gum contouring, and periodontal regeneration, which means the soft-tissue details that frame an implant crown can be addressed in the same practice rather than referred elsewhere. Our on-site dental lab helps here too, allowing closer collaboration on the fit, shade, and contour of your restoration.
Candidates should also know that implant treatment unfolds in stages over a period of months, not in a single appointment. Healing time is not wasted time — it's the bone doing the work that makes the implant last. We'll explain your particular timeline after examining your mouth, and we see patients without a referral, so you're welcome to come to us directly.
Living With Your Implants: Aftercare and Long-Term Results
Implants don't get cavities, but the tissue around them can still develop inflammation if plaque is allowed to build up. That makes everyday oral hygiene the single most important factor in long-term success. Brushing, cleaning between teeth and around the implant, and keeping up with professional cleanings protect the bone that holds everything in place.
We provide ongoing implant maintenance for exactly this reason. At these visits we check the fit of your restoration, measure the health of the surrounding tissue, and clean areas that are hard to reach at home. Small changes caught early are usually simple to manage. For full-arch patients, we'll also review the specific cleaning tools and techniques that work best with your particular restoration, since caring for an All-on-X bridge differs from caring for a single crown.
Payment, Insurance, and Getting Started
We are an out-of-network, fee-for-service practice and do not take insurance. We welcome self-pay and cash patients, and we believe in being clear about costs up front so you can plan with confidence. When we file claims as a specialist for periodontal services, we're happy to explain how that works in your situation.
We care for patients from Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach, Highland Beach, and Delray Beach, and we'd be glad to meet you. Call us to schedule a consultation, bring your questions, and let's look at your options together — at whatever pace feels right to you.
