Gum Disease Treatment in Boca Raton

Bleeding when you brush, gums that have started to pull away from your teeth, persistent bad breath, or a tooth that suddenly feels a little loose — these are the kinds of changes that bring Boca Raton patients to our office. Gum disease rarely announces itself with pain in the early stages, which is why so many people don't realize anything is wrong until the supporting bone around a tooth has already begun to change. The good news is that gum disease is treatable at nearly every stage, and the sooner it's addressed, the more conservative the treatment tends to be.

Gum disease is a bacterial infection of the tissues and bone that hold your teeth in place. It begins as gingivitis, when plaque and tartar build up along the gumline and the gums become inflamed, red, and prone to bleeding. At this point the condition is often reversible. When the infection progresses, it becomes periodontitis — pockets form between the gum and the tooth, bacteria settle deeper, and the bone that anchors the tooth begins to break down. That bone loss is the part that doesn't reverse on its own, which is why early intervention matters so much.

As a periodontal practice, this is the center of what we do every day. Periodontics is the dental specialty devoted to the gums, the bone, and the structures that support your teeth, and we have a board-certified periodontist on staff. We also accept patients without a referral, so if you've noticed symptoms yourself or simply want a specialist's opinion, you're welcome to come directly to us rather than waiting for a general dentist to send you.

Treatment begins with a thorough periodontal evaluation. We measure the depth of the pockets around each tooth, assess bleeding and recession, review imaging to see the condition of the underlying bone, and talk with you about your health history and habits. From there we build a plan that matches the severity of what we find — not a one-size-fits-all protocol.

For many Boca Raton patients, treatment starts with deep cleaning below the gumline to remove the bacteria and hardened deposits that brushing can't reach, followed by a healing period and a re-evaluation to see how the tissue responds. When the disease has advanced further, we may recommend periodontal regeneration, a procedure aimed at rebuilding bone and tissue lost to infection, or bone grafting and ridge augmentation to restore volume where the jaw has deteriorated. Gum grafting addresses recession that has exposed root surfaces, protecting sensitive areas and improving the look of the smile. In cases where a tooth cannot be saved, we are able to plan the next step — including dental implants, implant-supported bridges, and full-arch options — within the same practice, with an on-site dental lab supporting that work.

Here's what Boca Raton patients can generally expect from gum disease care with us:

  • A detailed diagnosis that explains exactly which teeth are affected and why
  • A treatment sequence staged so you always know what comes next
  • Surgical options such as regeneration, grafting, and crown lengthening when they're appropriate
  • Cosmetic considerations addressed alongside health, including gum contouring where it fits your goals
  • Ongoing periodontal maintenance to protect the results long after active treatment ends

Aftercare and Keeping Gum Disease From Coming Back

Healing after periodontal treatment is usually straightforward, but it does ask something of you. We'll give you specific instructions on eating, brushing, and rinsing during recovery, and we'll see you back to confirm the tissue is responding the way it should. Discomfort is typically manageable, and most people are surprised by how quickly the gums begin to feel firmer and less tender.

The longer-term piece is maintenance. Gum disease is a chronic condition, which means it can return if the bacteria are allowed to rebuild. We place real emphasis on oral hygiene coaching tailored to your mouth — the areas you tend to miss, the tools that work best for your spacing and restorations — and on a maintenance schedule at intervals that suit your risk level. For patients who have implants, we also provide implant maintenance, since the tissue around an implant needs monitoring just as natural teeth do.

Payment, Insurance, and Getting Started

We're an out-of-network, fee-for-service practice and do not take insurance, and we welcome self-pay patients. As a specialty office, we can file claims as a specialist on your behalf where that applies, and any reimbursement is determined by your individual plan.

Before treatment begins, we review the recommended plan and its costs with you so there are no surprises. We care for patients from Boca Raton as well as Deerfield Beach, Highland Beach, and Delray Beach, and we're glad to answer questions about your gum health before you commit to anything.
